In 1886, the Cliff Family founded the Toronto Salt Works. This family-run organization steadily grew, gaining a reputation for quality products and innovative service. Prior to the opening of the Welland Canal, when rail was the conventional salt transport, Toronto Salt Works became the first to utilize the Great Lakes for shipping. The Cliff family was also the first in the city of Toronto to supply and apply rock salt for de-icing. Today, Toronto Salt and Chemicals is still a family-run business, providing a comprehensive range of quality products, including food salt and absorbents. Armed with a realistic perception of today’s economic challenges, we steadfastly retain a leadership position in the marketplace. In fact, it is our leadership in times of change that has allowed the old Toronto Salt Works to become the company it is today. |
